CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION/CPR & AED - McMillan Enrollment limited to 12 students. The ASHI course provides individuals with the knowledge and CPR/AED skills necessary to provide effective basic life support in an emergency for adult, child and infant. It satisfies requirements for a clear teaching credential, childcare providers and other agencies. NOT FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS.Must understand and read English.
FIRST AID - McMillan Enrollment limited to 20 students. Participants learn to recognize and treat the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Must understand and read English.

CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT - Fee $775 NOTE: The September 2013 CNA class requires a mandatory orientation session: • Wednesday, May 22 • 9:30-11:30am • Berkeley Adult School, Room 114 To be notified of any changes, call the Berkeley Adult School Main Office (510.644.6130) or email Program Coordinator Carol McMillan: Orientation/Information Session May 22 Before enrolling in the course, potential students are required to attend the free orientation session. All questions will be answered at that time. The orientation/information session is an opportunity for you to learn about the roles and responsibilities of a Nurse Assistant and to determine if this is a career that you want to pursue. If you have any questions, you can contact Program Coordinator Carol McMillan at the email address above. This meeting is mandatory if you wish to be considered for acceptance into the program starting September 2013. Note: There is no fee and no enrollment needed for the orientation session itself. Just show up Wednesday, May 22, 9:30am, Room 114. If you decide to apply and be considered for the program, there are two non-refundable fees: • $10 for a reading and math assessment exam after the orientation session May 22, and on subsequent days to be announced at the orientation. • $100 for an application fee to cover processing required by the State of California, an interview, and evaluation of possible acceptance. • These fees are non-refundable, but are included in the total class fee of $775. The balance of $665 will be due for official BAS registration one week before the class start date in September. Program Description The Nurse Assistant program offers course work and a clinical internship that will prepare you for successful employment and to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam. BAS is an authorized CNA testing center. This program meets CNA requirements for university level RN programs. MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT (no online registration) All students wishing to enroll in the Medical Office Assistant course MUST attend an orientation and pass an assessment before registering for the class. The assessment is for typing, Microsoft Word, writing, and human relations skills. Candidates will be notified within two days if accepted into the program. Some candidates may be accepted on condition that they take other courses along with this course, to develop the above skills. Contact Program Coordinator Carol McMillan with questions: Orientation and Assessment - Room 113, 9:00am-1:00pm (arrive by 9:00am) • Tuesday, March 26, for the late Spring class (April 8 to June 14) • Be prepared to stay later than 1:00pm for an interview Program Description Students will be trained for employment as an administrative medical assistant, medical records clerk, patient admitting representative, and many other positions. The Medical Office Assistant course includes phone answering, appointment scheduling, insurance billing, computerized medical records and forms, and more. Two 9-week sessions. $235 each session
After 18 weeks (two training cycles), students may earn a certificate and/or a recommendation for a volunteer position at Children's Hospital in Oakland. To earn a certificate, students must also take the Medical Terminology course below. MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (no online registration) - Green This course may be taken separately from the Medical Office Assistant class. Students learn the language that is used in most medical jobs. This course covers word parts, body structure and function, diseases, and treatments used in many medical specialties. All students are required to obtain the textbook and complete homework assignments. After 18 weeks (two training cycles), students may earn a certificate. Two 9-week sessions. $45 each session.
